Benefits of Maca herb

First Aid for Summer

5-HTP: Prozac's Alternative

Herb success stories

Benefits of Maca herb —  Maca herbs are used for both nutritional and medicinal purposes.  It contains significant amounts of amino acids, complex carbohydrates, vitamins B1, B2, B12, C and E and minerals, including calcium, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium and iron. This herb has been traditionally used to increase energy, stamina vitality, and endurance in athletes, promote mental clarity, as an aphrodisiac for both men and women, for male impotence, menstrual irregularities and female hormone imbalances, menopausal problems such as hot flashes, fatigue, mood swings, loss of sexual desire and PMS.

While Maca herbs does not itself contain any hormones, its action on the body stimulates the pituitary gland into producing the precursor hormones which ultimately end up raising estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels, as well as helping to balance the adrenal glands, the thyroid and the pancreas. This occurs naturally while increasing energy.

Women who experience menstrual irregularities associated with PMS and perimenopause are now taking Maca herbs  to reduce cramps, bleeding and fatigue. The natural nutrients in Maca herbs help restore natural hormone levels in women. Unlike hormone drugs, Maca root acts stimulates your own natural hormone production, by inducing the optimal functioning of the pituitary and endocrine glands.  Maca herbs has been known to ease the body and assist with stress and help balance the hormonal levels naturally thus reducing and in many cases eliminating hot flashes.

Maca herbs as a fatigue-fighter and general tonic to counter lethargy, memory loss, and other health problems that can result from depleted energy. Recent analyses indicate that the root is rich in calcium, protein, iron, phosphorus, fiber, and mineral salts--all nutrients that may have been in short supply in diets. Men and women with low libido feel an increase in sexual desire, and men with erectile problems notice greatly improved sexual function.

Herb success stories

Cindy:  I had two prize dogs which had been poisoned.  The vet said to take them home because he couldn’t help them.  He knew the dogs were going to die, but I didn’t want to give up, so I took them home and with love and care I fed them hydrated bentonite and slippery elm with an eye dropper.  Those dogs are still living.

Katie:  I had memory problems.  It seemed I couldn’t remember anything.  Now I take gotu kola and it helps me retain what I read and increases my thinking capacity.

Janice:  My nephew was quite hyperactive.  He was impossible to be around.  He nearly drove my sister crazy.  I heard about catnip, and so I gave him catnip tea.  It calmed him down.  Before, he couldn’t even sit still in a chair.  He’d crawl under the chair or rock it so far back that it would tip over.  Now when he’s had his catnip he sits still.

5HTP: Prozac's Alternative 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is the less known alternative of serotonin (5-HT), one of the most important brain neurotransmitters. Tryptophan is first converted to 5-HTP in nerve cells by a vitamin B3 dependant enzyme, and then 5-HTP is converted to 5-HT by a vitamin B6 dependant enzyme.  5-HTP passes through the blood brain barrier into the brain far more easily than tryptophan, which in many people leads to inadequate brain serotonin levels.  Serotonin is a key brain neurotransmitter involved in mood regulation (anti-anxiety and anti-depressant) and impulse control (inhibits aggression and obsessive compulsive disorders, pain control and sleep).

Serotonin is also the precursor for our pineal gland’s production of melatonin. Studies show that 5-HTP is a far more efficient increaser of brain serotonin than tryptophan.

In human studies, 5-HTP has been a far more successful anti-depressant and has been shown to increase brain dopamine (DA) and noradrenaline (NA) activity. These are key mood and alertness regulating neurotransmitters.

5-HTP may also be helpful (in some cases) of compulsive carbohydrate overeating, alcohol addiction and compulsive gambling (specific forms of OCD), as well as for insomnia.

Research also shows that both tryptophan, and 5-HTP, increase the activity of MAO inhibitor drugs, tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin inhibitor (SSRI) drugs, such as Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.
