The circulatory system is the body's transport system that provides a continuous supply of nutrients and oxygen to every cell in the body. It collects carbon dioxide and other waste materials and carries them away. It is made up of a group of organs that transport blood throughout the body. The heart pumps the blood and the arteries and veins transport it. When the blood, no longer contains oxygen and nutrients, it then goes back to the heart through veins. Veins carry waste products away from cells and bring blood back to the heart, which pumps it to the lungs to pick up oxygen and eliminate waste carbon dioxide. The human heart makes the Circulatory system work. Like all other body tissues, your heart also needs oxygen and nutrients in order to function properly. Blood has four main components: Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and liquid plasma. White blood cells comprise an important part of the body's immune system whose main function provides defense against infectious agents. Platelets are tiny, specialized cells that are activated whenever blood clotting or blood vessel repair is needed. Arteries, veins, an every other part of our bodies are constantly undergoing decay, repair and replacement. but in order to repair and replace tissue properly, our bodies must produce a binding protein called collagen. To form collagen, your body needs large quantities of ascorbate (vitamin C). If you don't have enough ascorbate to make collagen, the artery walls will form lesions of disrepair. If you took no vitamin C at all, you would get scurvy - the lesions would rupture and you'd die of internal bleeding. Cholesterol - a basic building block in the bloodstream - is supposed to be regulated by being recycled - converted to bile and excreted through the intestines. Large quantities of ascorbate vitamin C are needed for this conversion to take place. If you don't have enough vitamin C, excess cholesterol and lipoprotein will build up in your bloodstream. Health concerns related to the Circulatory system include high cholesterol or triglycerides, high blood pressure, poor circulation and heart disease. Indications of blood circulation problems are Cold hands or feet; cramping, pain or fatigue in legs and feet; tired or aching legs, pins and needles in the feet and swelling in the lower legs.
